How often are new bitcoins mined?

The rate at which new bitcoin are mined is geared to slow down over time. The reward for mining each block of bitcoin – which is done every 10 minutes – halves every 210,000 blocks. That’s roughly once every four years. As of 2022, the reward per block had diminished from its initial reward of 50 BTC per block in 2009 to just 6.25 bitcoin.

Why is it so hard to mine bitcoin?

Just as the amount of gold available to mine out of the earth diminishes, so too does available Bitcoin in order to maintain its scarcity. Every four years or so, the amount of Bitcoin mined from a block is cut in half, doubling the time it takes to mine the same amount as before the halving.

Is it possible to mine bitcoin for a fee?

No, that would cause inflation. Miners will just adjust to fees and thats it. Limited supply gives it value. If it was infinite amount of btc. it would just make it worthless. instead. after all btc are mined, its value will increase even more. and thus. make it profitable to mine even for fee. it might come time when 1btc=$1 000 000.

Will there ever be a new bitcoin?

Once all 21 million have been mined, there will never be any new bitcoins (unless a change to the protocol is made to increase the supply). Supporters love Bitcoin’s fixed supply because it harkens back to the days of the sound money gold standard.
